Car Wash vs. Car Detail: Understanding the Main Differences and How They Affect Your Car’s Appearance and Overall Health
Are you a car owner who is torn between getting a car wash or car detail? At first it can be very confusing and lead you down many rabbit holes. Attempting to figure out the dissimilarity can be baffling. Don't panic, this post will help clear up the differences between a car wash and a car detail so that you can make the right decision about what services cater to your vehicle.
Car Washes: A car wash is the most basic form of cleaning your vehicle. You can find a car wash almost anywhere in your local neighborhood. They vary from Automated machines to hand wash. Both type of services involve using water, pressurized soap, and brushes to clean the exterior of your vehicle. It often takes less than 30 minutes of labor and usually the price ranges depending on automated machine or hand wash. The automated machine hand washes are known to be cheaper compared to a hand wash car wash. You can expect to pay about $20 on average for a automated car wash and over $20 for a hand wash car wash. However, it won’t do much more than get rid of dirt and grime; it won’t restore any faded paint or repair any damage that may have occurred from environmental factors such as sun exposure, hail storms, hard water spots, and embedded contaminants.
Car Detail: A car detail is a step up from a car wash. It's a very thorough cleaning of the exterior and interior of the vehicle. It consists of washing and waxing the vehicle, cleaning all interior surfaces such as carpets, upholstery, and vinyl. Polishing all exterior surfaces such as chrome trim, windows, restoring faded paint and imperfections of the paint. In some cases, it may even include repairing minor scratches or dents in your vehicle. The amount of time it takes depends on the condition of your vehicle but typically ranges from 1-8 hours and costs anywhere from $50-$1000 depending on how many services you request. The condition of your car plays a huge role in determining the price and time needed to restore your vehicle. In some cases your vehicle might need to stay more than 1 day, in rare situations it can take a week to bring the car back to life.
